Facebook To Launch A Dedicated Video App For Apple TV

Last October Facebook rolled out AirPlay and Chromecast support allowing Facebook videos to be directly streamed to the televisions. Now it looks like Facebook is planning to launch a dedicated TV app for video content consumption.  According to a recent report by The Wall Street Journal, Facebook is working on an app for the Apple TV and other set-top boxes.

The new app is reportedly being designed solely for the Facebook video content consumption. The videos will content advertisement units, which will help Facebook getting more dollars out of it. A few weeks ago news broke that Facebook will soon start monetizing videos. It will start testing the “mid-role” ads, which will allow the video publishers to integrate the ads after 20 seconds of video playback. Facebook will then share the 55 percent of generated revenue with the publishers. YouTube also offer the exact same amount of shares to their publishers.

The company also reported they will soon start the video content production saying, “We’re exploring funding some seed video content, including original and licensed scripted, unscripted and sports content, that takes advantage of mobile and the social interaction unique to Facebook. Our goal is to show people what is possible on the platform and learn as we continue to work with video partners around the world.”

With more than 500 million people watching Facebook videos every day, It is safe to say that Mark Zuckerberg has successfully managed to build a video empire. Facebook is now planning to make some money out of it.

Stay tuned for the updates.
