Low budget independent games developed by small studios have always been an important part of the Apple App Store. The problem with indie games is that they usually get stacked below the big-budget and free to play titles. Apple is trying to solve this problem by providing a permanent spot on the App Store just for indie games.
Apple announced the news on their official twitter account,

The Indie Game section will contain new games as well as older titles, the games will be selected by Apple’s editorial team in a manner similar to other app sections. Throughout the promotion, Apple will highlight the games based on their categories. The Indie game celebration will end on March 20th. Apple later confirmed the Indie Games section will remain permanent on the App Store.
This is a really good news for all small scale game developers across the world. It’s an important decision by the company and will definitely result in more developers attracting to the iOS platform.
