MSI GL62M 7RE-407: The $800 Gaming Laptop

MSI GL62M 7RE-407

With the products like Dell Inspiron 7000, Lenovo Legion Y520, and Gigabyte Sabre 15 the hardware manufacturers are changing the very definition of affordable gaming laptops. Today you can get an entry-level portable gaming machine under $1000 that is capable of playing all modern AAA titles at respectable framerates.  MSI GL62M 7RE-407 is another addition to this category.

The $800 MSI GL62M 7RE-407 comes with a 2.8GHz seventh generation “Kaby Lake” Intel Core i5-7300HQ (turbo 3.8GHz) processor, 8GB DDR4 RAM, GeForce GTX 1050Ti 4GB graphics card, Full HD 1920×1080 pixels display panel, onboard 256GB solid-state drive (SSD), and a 2.5” SATA slot for upgradability.

Arguably the presence of onboard GTX 1050Ti makes this laptop capable of running some VR games. Most VR headsets take up a couple of USB ports at once and this laptop has got a plenty of ports. It features an Ethernet port, a Mini DisplayPort connector, an HDMI port, an SD card slot, one USB-C port, two USB 3.0 ports, one USB 2.0 port, a microphone jack, and a headphone jack.

With the GL62M 7RE-407, MSI has managed to keep the design between a gaming and a corporate machine. MSI isn’t known for making flashy gaming laptops and this is no difference. Design wise it looks like the every other MSI laptop out there. It follows the all matte black design perspective the only’ Red’ part being the iconic MSI logo and the exhaust lines. The RGB backlit keyboard could have been a great addition but to keep it under the budget MSI decided to go with the non-backlit keyboard.

The MSI GL62M 7RE-407 is a great option for anyone who is looking for a good budget gaming laptop/workstation. It is capable of running most modern day titles in Full HD at medium to high settings. It is can also handle Photo and Video editing tasks smoothly.

Stay tuned for the updates.
