Western Digital has announced a new SSD line under the name “My Passport SSD”. This new line of SSDs will come in three different variants with 56 GB, 512 GB, and 1 TB capacities. According to WD, all SSDs are shock resistant and support hardware-based AES-256 encryption.
WD hasn’t revealed any further technical details, all we know now is the SSDs will feature a USB 3.1 Type-C communication port and will offer up to 515 MB/s transfer rates. These transfer rates are almost 15% faster than the other SSDs available in the market, at least on paper.

My Passport SSDs is currently available only in the US, with wider global availability expected later this quarter. The 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB models are respectively price at $99.99, $199.99 and $399.99.
