Microsoft has just revealed the detailed technical specifications of Project Scorpio by collaborating with Digital Foundry. The video covers all the technical aspects of the upcoming gaming console. The video discussed ForzaTech demonstration natively running at 4K 60 fps, with only 60–70 percent of GPU utilization.
Project Scorpio’s primary selling point is 4K gaming at 60fps, in the announcement we only get to see some screenshots of ForzaTech demonstration. Microsoft promises 1080p gaming with the Xbox One console and we all know the launch titles didn’t achieve this. Even to this date some Xbox One games struggle to achieve stable 1080p at 60fps. Which raises the question, Will every Project Scorpio game natively run at 4k 60fps?
The Forza demonstration successfully achieved 4K resolution at 60 fps, with only 60–70 percent of GPU utilization. That means Scorpio is no joke, it got power. Microsoft showing Forza running at 4k isn’t the same as a third-party game running on the console.
Reportedly, the Forza engine was ported to Scorpio in just two days and it worked like a charm. Which is not something that usually happens with the prototype consoles. This is a big news for the game developers that how easy it is to port original Xbox One titles to the Project Scorpio.
So it is clearly up to the developers to get used to the new hardware and decide the resolution and frame rates suitable for their games. The Scorpio looks powerful and is clearly capable of running some games at 4k 60fps but considering the company has a history of failed promises, I’ll hold my horses until the launch date.
