When the USB-C was announced it was held as a universal standard port of the future. A single connector to charge and transfer data between your all consumer devices. These devices include smartphones, laptops, gaming consoles and the other smart peripherals.
In theory, it all sounds good but practically using the same port to charge your all electronics is not that simple. Every electronic device has a different power requirement and data transfer needs. Making a single port to achieve it all at a maximum performance rate is a rather difficult task. The solution to all of these problems is the new USB 3.2 specification.
The USB 3.0 promoter group just announced a new edition to the USB-C standard, the USB 3.2. It will support multi-lane operations which will allow different devices to transfer multiple lanes of data at the same time. It will be way faster (almost twice) than the current USB 3.0 standard, allowing either two lanes of 5Gbps or two lanes of 10Gbps transfer rates. The problem with this new specification is the requirement of new hardware. To take the full advantage of these features your device has to be USB 3.2 compatible. Although you will notice improved transfer rates even if your device incorporates the older generation USB-C pots.
The new USB 3.2 specifications are expected to finalized by the end of this year. Stay tuned for the updates.
